Workshop: Understanding Practical Work for ages 12-18

October, 2024

Work is central to the Montessori approach and the development of the individual. Every plane of development needs to offer the right kind of work. The hand is still important.

Montessori acknowledged that maturity could only be reached through experience and practical work. This workshop will thus focus on the work that is important for the adolescent in terms of meeting their needs and serving their characteristics, helping them do adult work as a way to understand society. The participants will have the opportunity to first hand experience the practical work that the adolescents can be offered along being introduced to how this work can come out of the needs of the environment and how it is framed to correspond to the developmental task of the adolescent.

This workshop is open to all regardless of prior Montessori training or experience and aims to provide an understanding of how practical work happens in a Montessori adolescent community and the approach needed to support adolescent development.
